I seem to be in the minority who thinks Kid A and Amnesiac was the best Radiohead's works, so this Stanley Donwood and Thom Yorke art compilation is a great way to go back to that pair of albums that were such a big part of my artistic formation and inspiration.

The book focuses on the art created by Donwood and York for the Kid A and Amnesiac albums, though Donwood's work is known since My Iron Long, Ok Computer and all subsequent Radiohead albums, as well as Atoms for Peace and The Eraser. It is known that Donwood did not like the sound of Radiohead in the days of Pablo Honey and The Bends, but then felt much more comfortable when listening to his new sound in Kid A, which was evident in the enormous amount of work created at that time.

The book is comprised of a conversational introduction between Yorke and Donwood discussing his creative process, use of emerging technologies in his art, and various recollections.

Most of the book are works shows in full-color pages with only the names of each piece. The art is very diverse, from ink sketches, oil portraits, collages, maps to computer generated pixelated landscapes with themes such as monsters, genocide, death, globalization etc.

Personally I am not very fond of abstract art, however I have a special appreciation for these two albums that I grew up looking and imagining myself exploring the landscapes shown in the booklets.

If you're a fan of Radiohead then this is definitely a great addition to the musical experience, giving a deeper visual texture to the worlds created in both albums.

Al parecer formo parte de la minoría que cree que Kid A y Amnesiac fue lo mejor que hizo Radiohead, así que este compilatorio de arte de Stanley Donwood y Thom Yorke me resulta una gran manera de regresar a ese par de discos que formaron una parte importante de formación artística e inspiración.

El libro esta centrado en el arte creado por Donwood y York para los álbumes Kid A y Amnesiac, aun cuando el trabajo de Donwood es conocido desde My Iron Long, Ok Computer y todos los subsecuentes discos de Radiohead, así como Atoms for Peace y The Eraser. Es sabido que Donwood no le gustaba el sonido de Radiohead en los tiempos de Pablo Honey y The Bends pero se sintió mucho mas cómodo al escuchar su nuevo sonido en Kid A, notándose en la enorme cantidad de trabajos creados en esa época.

El libro esta compuesto por una introducción a forma de platica entre Yorke y Donwood hablando sobre su proceso creativo, uso de tecnologías emergentes en su arte y remembranzas varias.

La mayor parte del libro son obras mostradas a full-page en color con solo los nombres de cada pieza. El arte es muy variado, desde sketches en tinta, retratos al oleo, collages, mapas hasta paisajes pixeleados generados por computadora con temas como monstruos, genocidios, muerte, globalizacion etc.

Personalmente no soy muy afecto al arte abstracto, sin embargo tengo un aprecio especial por este par de discos y crecí mirando e imaginándome explorando los paisajes que se mostraban en los booklets.

Si eres fan de Radiohead entonces definitivamente esta es una gran adición a la experiencia musical, dando una textura visual mas profunda a los mundos creados en ambos discos.
