Udon is already a well-known publishing powerhouse for video game art books that are comprehensive, high-quality and affordable.

The Art of Shantae is divided into 7 main sections; Earliest Concepts, Shantae 2002, Shantae Risky's Revenge, Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, Shantae 1/2 Genie Hero, Shantae and the Seven Sirens, and Bonus Content.

Earliest Concepts contains many screenshots of the game in its 1995 "pitch" version and original sketches of the characters, which serve to see the evolution it has had visually, although it is notorious how characters like Risky Boots already have a very landed and clear idea of what they were looking for from the beginning.

Each game has its own section for sketches, character designs, sprites, levels, backgrounds, props, UI graphics and key visuals. There are a ton of rough sketches not only for characters but also levels and game design, plus there are tons of annotations that go along with most of the images, from artist credits to detailed production notes.

The Shantae 1/2 Genie Hero section is the most robust, with images and sketches of all the characters, poses, animation thumbnails, enemies, NPCs, the art used in the Kickstarter campaign and much more.

Shantae and the Seven Sirens has the same content as the others but adds art, stills and animation layouts from the game opening made by Trigger (Kill la Kill, Gurren Lagan) which, as is their very well known style, has a very dynamic and exaggerated movement that looks incredible (you can watch the video at the bottom of this page).

Highly recommended for fans of the Shantae franchise, character designers, anime lovers, and basically anyone interested in handcrafted 2D video game production art. The quantity and quality of the content makes this one of my favorite Udon books and quite frankly a fucking steal for the price, buy it!

Udon ya es una casa de publicación bien conocida de libros de arte de video juegos que usualmente son muy completos, de gran calidad accesibles.

El arte de Shantae esta dividido 7 secciones principales; Earliest Concepts, Shantae 2002, Shantae Risky's Revenge, Shantae and the Pirate's Curse, Shantae 1/2 Genie Hero, Shantae and the Seven Sirens y Bonus Content.

Earliest Concepts contiene muchos screenshots del juego en su versión de "pitch" en 1995 y bocetos originales de los personajes, que sirven para ver la evolución que ah tenido visualmente, aunque es notorio como personajes como Risky Boots ya tenían una idea muy clara de lo que buscaban desde el principio.

Cada juego tiene su propia sección de bocetos, diseño de personajes, sprites, niveles, fondos, props, imágenes de interfaz y key visuals. Hay un montón de rough sketches no solo de personajes si no también de niveles y game design, además contiene muchísimas anotaciones que acompañan a la mayoría de las imágenes, desde la mención del artista hasta notas detalladas de producción.

La sección de Shantae 1/2 Genie Hero es la mas robusta, con imágenes y bocetos de todos los personajes, poses, thumbnails de animación, enemigos, NPCs, el arte usado en la campaña de Kickstarter y mucho mas.

Shantae and the Seven Sirens tiene el mismo contenido que las demás pero agrega arte, stills y layouts de la animación de el game opening hecho por Trigger (Kill la Kill, Gurren Lagan) que como es su estilo, esta lleno de dinamismo y movimiento exagerado que luce increíble (puedes ver el video al final de esta pagina).

Altamente recomendado para fans de la franquicia de Shantae, diseñadores de personajes, amantes del anime y básicamente a cualquiera que le interese el arte de producción para videojuegos 2D hechos a mano. La cantidad y calidad de contenido hace de este uno de mis libros favoritos de Udon y francamente un puto regalo por el precio, ¡cómpralo!.
