Simon Stålenhag has a great reputation that precedes him as an illustrator, storyteller and even with some interesting ambient music (you can listen to the official soundtrack of The Labyrint here), so if you get to this art book chances are you already know what you will get.

The Labyrint follows a team of 3 survivors in a devastated world with an almost-destroyed atmosphere, who travel in an 8-wheeler to settle on a base and continue their investigation of the strange phenomena that is occuring.

This book, like the previous ones (Tales From The Loop, Things From The Flood and The Electric State) is visually very cinematic; how the story is told, the composition and rhythm of each scene makes you feel as if you´'re watching a film. It wasn't a coincidence that Amazon Studios understood the potential and produced the series based on Tales From The Loop. Filled with robots, surreal scenes and beautiful but dark and haunting landscapes, it is visually stunning.

The book itself has a very good quality, with a rigid binding but you still can open it completely and a hardcover with a cloth-like texture spine. The printing is top notch but many images are very dark and sometimes can be difficult to appreciate. The editorial design is clean and the layouts are simple and elegant just like the previews books, which all feel like part of a consistent collection and of the same universe.

Simon is a master at creating mood and technically his digital paintings are incredible, full of texture that makes you forget it's digital, impeccable lighting and cinematic compositions, however I personally would love to see some Simon's pieces with more dynamism and movement.

If you are a fan of Simon, dark post-apocalyptic places and psychological thrillers, do not hesitate to acquire this new art book.

Simon Stålenhag tiene una gran reputación que lo precede como ilustrador, storyteller e incluso con interesantes incursiones musicales ambientales (puedes escuchar el soudtrack oficial de The Labyrint aqui) así que si llegas a este libro de arte es muy probable que ya sepas que obtendrás.

The Labyrint sigue a un equipo de 3 sobrevivientes en un mundo devastado y con una atmosfera casi destruida, quienes viajan en un vehículo de 8 ruedas para establecerse en una base y continuar con la investigación de los extraños fenómenos que ocurren.

Este libro al igual que los anteriores (Tales From The Loop, Things From The Flood y The Electric State) es visualmente muy cinematográfico; el como la historia es contada, la composición y ritmo de cada escena te hace sentir como si lo vieras en una película. No por nada Amazon Studios se dio cuenta del potencial y produjeron la serie basada en Tales From The Loop. Lleno de robots, escenas surrealistas combinadas con hermosos pero obscuros paisajes, es visualmente increíble.

El libro en si es de muy buena calidad, con una encuadernación rígida pero que puedes abrir por completo, de pasta dura con dorso tipo tela. Las imágenes son muchas de ellas muy obscuras las cuales pueden llegar a ser difíciles de apreciar en ocasiones. El diseño editorial es muy limpio y los layouts son sencillos y elegantes al igual que los libros predecesores los cuales se sienten todos como de una colección consistente y que forman parte del mismo universo.

Simon es un maestro en la creación del mood así como técnicamente sus pinturas digitales son increíbles, llenas de textura que te hace olvidar que es digital, manejo de luz impecable y composiciones cinemáticas, sin embargo personalmente me encantaría poder ver piezas de Simon con mayor dinamismo y movimiento.

Si eres fan de Simon, de lugares post-apocalípticos obscuros y de thrillers psicológicos no dudes en adquirir este nuevo libro de arte.
